Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games for the end of the year and a recent interview carried out by IGN confirmed that the game will have Ray Tracing active in all modes.

The website spoke with Insomniac Games’ technology and project directors, Mike Fitzegerald and Jeannette Lee, to understand how the game will behave on the PlayStation 5. According to the developers, the studio managed to create a way for the console to run the title with Ray Tracing enabled in all modes.

In all, Spider-Man 2 it will have three modes: 30, 40 and 60 FPS. The 30 FPS game mode will have the most realistic light rays and will therefore run at a lower frame rate. The 60 FPS mode prioritizes performance, so it will be necessary to give up some resources and some general graphical quality, but the RT will be maintained.

The 40 FPS mode will be the middle of the road and will only be available for televisions that work at 120Hz. This option was not available in the original game, but it should strike a better balance between performance and image quality.

Ray Tracing will be the gaming experience

Marvel’s Spider-Man it already offered the possibility of using Ray Tracing, but, due to the inferior technical capacity of the consoles at the time, the effects could not be as realistic as Insommaniac would have liked.

“For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2we really managed to deliver [o Ray Tracing] as a basis of performance modes. There is no mode in this game that has Ray Tracing turned off, there is no need for that. We figured out a way to deliver what we think are the right visuals for Spider-Man and we want to make sure every player is seeing that,” says Mike Fitzegerald.

The developers also point out that the Ray Tracing concept has been expanded to water and the oceans. Another interesting feature is the quick switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the open world, thanks to the PS5’s powerful SSD.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20th, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
